Counseling Philosophy
The counselors at Pattie Elementary School believe:
  • Every student will have the opportunity to achieve academic success with the proper support and intervention regardless of race, gender, religious views, socioeconomic status, or ethnicity All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program
  • All students’ learning styles and special needs should be considered in planning and implementing the counseling program   
  • All students should have access to a full-time, state-certified, masters-degree-level school counselor to deliver the counseling program
The Pattie Elementary School counseling program should:
  • Be an essential part of the total student educational plan
  • Be comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature
  • Be based on Prince William County, Virginia, and ASCA standards and developmental student competencies        
  • Be developed, coordinated, and implemented in association with other educators, parents/guardians, and community representatives
  • Use data to drive program development, evaluation, and improvement
  • Focus on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for successful academic achievement, career development, and personal/social growth
  • Be evaluated yearly in coordination with a counseling supervisor and site principal on specified Closing the Achievement Gap Plan and student needs
All counselors at Pattie Elementary School will:
  • Follow the professional school counseling ethical code as stated in the guidelines of the American School Counselor Association
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Continuously assess counseling program and school goals regularly
Counseling Services
Counseling services are available to all students. As counselors we work
with students individually, in small groups, and in the classrooms. We are
available to help students who need someone to listen, help with friends,
and to deal with many of the daily school issues. Our main goal as
counselors is to help the students succeed in school.
School Counseling Mission
The School Counseling Department at Pattie Elementary provides a comprehensive program that promotes all students' personal/social, academic and career development in a safe, caring and respectful environment.  Through a collaboration of staff, family and community we prepare our students with the knowlege and skills to be highly productive and responsible citizens.
